Maldives Yacht Charter Itinerary: 4 to 14 Days - Charter&Dreams

Maldives Yacht Charter Itinerary: Discover the Best Routes in 4, 7, 10 or 14 Days

A Maldives yacht charter takes you beyond a single resort: breakfast off a local island, a reef explored by tender and dinner on deck as the last boats come home. Around Malé, you can combine island life with good restaurants ashore. Further west and south, Ari and Vaavu bring longer passages, protected reefs and days shaped around the sea. The best itinerary gives each of those experiences enough time.

These four itineraries start and finish in the Malé area. The four-day option explores North Malé; the seven-day route heads through South Malé to Vaavu. Ten days makes an Ari circuit through Rasdhoo, while fourteen days links Vaavu and Ari before returning through Rasdhoo. The longer routes include days set aside for the crossings, alongside beaches, local food and guided time in the water.

For background on the cruising areas, see our Maldives yacht charter destination guide and our winter destinations guide. December to April is a useful planning window, with January to March the main dry northeast monsoon according to the Maldives Meteorological Service. December and April are transition months; showers and changes in sea conditions remain possible.

Day counts include embarkation and disembarkation: 4, 7, 10 and 14 days mean 3, 6, 9 and 13 nights aboard. The Ari routes assume a morning embarkation; an overnight arrival in Malé works well before an early departure. Your captain adjusts reef visits and overnight positions to the weather, currents and yacht’s draft. Restaurant bookings and shore permissions are arranged ahead of the relevant visit.

4-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary: North Malé

Three nights in North Malé give you a first taste of the islands without an inter-atoll crossing. This route moves north through Himmafushi, Huraa and Thulusdhoo, balancing time in the water with a protected mangrove, island cafés and an evening at Baraabaru.

Maldives picnic in the beach

Day 1: Malé to Himmafushi

Board in the Malé area and cruise north to Himmafushi. After the crew’s welcome and water-safety briefing, take the tender ashore for a look around the harbour and a cold drink in the village. Back aboard, ease into the holiday with a guided snorkel or a swim before dinner. The first afternoon is deliberately unhurried, giving everyone time to settle in and the crew a chance to understand how you like to spend your days.

Day 2: Himmafushi to Huraa

Huraa introduces a different side of the Maldives through its protected mangrove habitat. Visit with a local guide to understand how the wetland connects the island to the surrounding sea, then return aboard for lunch and an afternoon in the water. For dinner, book Baraabaru at nearby Four Seasons Kuda Huraa: Indian cooking and a dining pavilion over the lagoon make a memorable evening ashore. The restaurant welcomes outside guests by reservation; transfers are arranged with the resort.

Day 3: Huraa to Thulusdhoo

Continue north to Thulusdhoo, whose cafés and surf culture give it a lively character. Go ashore for a coffee and explore on foot before returning for lunch aboard. The afternoon belongs to the water: a guided reef visit, a beach stop or a paddle where conditions allow. Cokes and Chickens are names associated with surfing here, but the winter itinerary does not depend on a surf session. Finish the day with sundowners and a relaxed dinner on the yacht.

Day 4: Thulusdhoo to Malé

Cruise south from Thulusdhoo toward Malé after breakfast, leaving a generous margin for disembarkation and the airport transfer. Enjoy the changing view of reef edges and island harbours from the deck on this final leg. If your flight is later, a separately arranged visit to Malé can follow the charter, with luggage and transfers taken care of. Guests with an earlier departure should spend the previous evening closer to the airport, shortening the Thulusdhoo stay.

4-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary

7-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary: South Malé and Vaavu

Six nights bring South Malé and Vaavu into the same holiday. The route combines Gulhi’s beach, Guraidhoo’s lagoon, Fulidhoo’s island life and a quieter reef day around Kuda Anbara. The sixth day is reserved for the return north, with dinner at CROSSROADS before the final transfer.

Day 1: Malé to Gulhi

Leave the Malé area for Gulhi in South Malé Atoll. A beach visit and a first guided snorkel make an easy opening after embarkation, followed by lunch aboard. Later, take a short walk through the island to see everyday life beyond the visitor beach, then return to the yacht for the evening. Gulhi keeps the first day within South Malé, so there is time to enjoy the stop before the route continues toward Vaavu.

Day 2: Gulhi to Guraidhoo

Move south to Guraidhoo for a day centred on its surrounding lagoon and reefs. A guide can introduce less experienced snorkellers to a suitable reef while confident swimmers explore with tender support. Lunch aboard leaves the afternoon free for paddleboarding where the water allows, or a visit to the island’s shops and cafés. There is no need to fit in every activity: choose one water outing and one shore visit, then enjoy the evening at anchor.

Day 3: Guraidhoo to Fulidhoo

Cross from South Malé to Fulidhoo on Vaavu’s northern edge, with the passage forming the main part of the morning. Once settled, go ashore for a late-afternoon stroll and tea at a local café. Fishing and music are part of the island’s character; a locally arranged boduberu performance can bring the evening to life when musicians are available. Return aboard for dinner, with time to appreciate the quieter pace after the crossing.

Day 4: Fulidhoo to Thinadhoo

Cruise further into Vaavu to Thinadhoo. Spend the morning on a guided reef outing, watching the smaller details of the reef as well as the larger fish passing through. A tender-supported snorkel can be followed by a beach visit and lunch back aboard. Later, stretch your legs ashore or take a book onto the shaded deck. This is a full day in one area, with room to enjoy a second swim without adding another island to the schedule.

Day 5: Thinadhoo to Kuda Anbara

Head toward Kuda Anbara for a day away from village streets. Explore the reef with a guide, then use a suitable sandbank for a picnic or a barefoot walk when tide and access permit. Sandbanks change with the sea, so the crew chooses the landing on the day. Back aboard, enjoy a late lunch and a quiet afternoon. Dinner on the yacht rounds off the Vaavu stay before tomorrow’s northbound passage.

Day 6: Vaavu to CROSSROADS

Leave Vaavu early for the return to South Malé. Settle into a passage day with breakfast and lunch aboard; there is no fixed morning excursion to squeeze in before departure. At CROSSROADS, a prearranged marina arrival gives you an evening ashore. Book Nihonbashi Blue for Japanese dining or choose another of the marina’s restaurants, then spend the last night close to Malé. The marina accepts visiting private boats, with vessel and arrival details provided in advance.

Day 7: South Malé to Hulhumalé

Enjoy breakfast aboard before the final leg to the agreed Malé-area disembarkation point. Being back in South Malé overnight keeps this morning focused on the transfer, rather than a return from Vaavu. Hand over luggage, say goodbye to the crew and continue to the airport or your hotel. A later flight may leave time ashore after disembarkation, but the charter’s final morning remains free of a scheduled dive or a distant excursion.

7-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary

Alternative 7-Day Maldives Yacht Charter Itinerary

10-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary: Rasdhoo and Ari

Nine nights follow a north-to-south Ari circuit, beginning with Rasdhoo and returning to Malé through South Malé Atoll. Local islands alternate with reef days and a South Ari Marine Park outing. The ninth day is kept for the eastbound crossing, so departure does not depend on a domestic flight from Maamigili.

Day 1: Malé to Rasdhoo

Embark early in the Malé area for the westbound passage to Rasdhoo. Breakfast and lunch aboard give the day its rhythm as the yacht leaves the busier waters around the capital. Arrive with time to settle, discuss the next morning’s guided reef visit and enjoy dinner on deck. This is a crossing day, with no fixed shore programme on arrival. A late international arrival is best followed by a night in Malé before this itinerary begins.

Day 2: Rasdhoo and Madivaru

Spend the day around Rasdhoo and the protected Madivaru area. Experienced divers can explore an appropriate site with a dive team, while snorkellers have a separate guided outing suited to their confidence and the conditions. Later, a permitted sandbank landing offers a different view of the atoll, with shallow colours giving way to the deeper blue beyond the reef. Go ashore in Rasdhoo for a browse before dinner; shark encounters are a possibility, never the day’s promise.

Day 3: Rasdhoo to Ukulhas

Cruise south toward Ukulhas and make this a beach-focused day after Rasdhoo’s diving and reef activity. Walk along the visitor beach, stop for a drink ashore and return aboard for a long lunch. The afternoon can be as simple as swimming and reading, with a short guided snorkel for anyone keen to get back in the water. An early dinner leaves the evening open for conversation on deck as the island lights come on.

Day 4: Ukulhas to Mathiveri

Continue to Mathiveri for a change from a beach afternoon to a tender outing among the nearby shallows. With the crew arranging access, visit a suitable picnic island or sandbank and enjoy lunch away from the yacht. Water movement between islands can be strong, so transfers are by tender rather than an unsupervised swim across a channel. Return aboard for a rest, then take a short walk ashore in the cooler part of the day.

Day 5: Mathiveri to Feridhoo

Feridhoo is a good place to slow the route for a full day. Join a guide to explore its reef, paying attention to the fish and coral formations that are easy to miss on a quick swim. Lunch aboard can be followed by an afternoon ashore or a second, shorter water outing. For keen photographers, use the time to practise without chasing wildlife or crowding it. Dinner stays aboard, with no evening transfer to organise.

Day 6: Feridhoo to Omadhoo

Cruise south to Omadhoo and go ashore with a local host for a closer look at the island’s daily life. Try hedhikaa, the savoury short eats served with tea, then follow the lanes toward the waterfront before returning to the yacht. This is a day for the inhabited islands of Ari, balancing the previous reef visit with time on land. A late-afternoon swim and a meal prepared by your chef bring the focus back to life aboard.

Day 7: Omadhoo to Dhigurah and South Ari Marine Park

Continue south to Dhigurah for an outing in South Ari Marine Park, where whale sharks occur throughout the year. Set out with an authorised local team and allow time to search without turning the day into a race between sightings. If an encounter is possible, enter on the guide’s instruction and give the animal space to move. Afterwards, Dhigurah’s long beach offers a welcome stretch of land before you return aboard for lunch or an early dinner.

Day 8: Dhigurah to Dhangethi

Dhangethi gives the South Ari stay a different focus after the wildlife outing. Enjoy breakfast during the move north along the atoll’s eastern side, then head ashore for a café stop and a walk around the island. Later, choose a guided reef swim or an afternoon on deck. The crew prepares for tomorrow’s return crossing while you enjoy a final evening in Ari, with dinner aboard and time to compare photographs from the journey.

Day 9: South Ari to South Malé

Depart Ari early for South Malé Atoll. This day is reserved for the open-water crossing, with meals aboard and time to rest between them. It creates a clear separation between the Ari stay and the final airport transfer, rather than combining both on departure day. Once in South Malé, settle into the overnight position chosen by the captain. A late swim is a bonus if arrival and conditions allow; the passage remains the priority.

Day 10: South Malé to Malé

Return to the Malé area after breakfast for disembarkation and your onward transfer. Completing the eastbound crossing yesterday means there is no Maamigili flight to coordinate and no last-day return from Ari. The crew will work to the agreed handover time, with any later hotel or city visit arranged separately. Leave the yacht with a varied picture of the Maldives: Rasdhoo’s reefs, Ari’s inhabited islands and time spent observing its marine life.

10-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary

14-day Maldives yacht charter itinerary: the central atolls in depth

Thirteen nights link South Malé and Vaavu with a longer passage west to Ari, then turn north through Rasdhoo before returning to Malé. This circuit gives diving, island visits and days aboard their own space. Two key crossings have dedicated days, and the yacht returns to Malé before the final morning.

Day 1: Malé to CROSSROADS

Start with a short cruise from the Malé area to CROSSROADS. The Maldives Discovery Centre introduces the islands’ culture and history before the route takes you further into the atolls. Spend the afternoon settling aboard, then head to the marina for a reserved dinner at Carne Diem Grill or another restaurant of your choice. Private-boat arrival is arranged ahead of time. It is a sociable opening, followed by several days when meals and evenings centre on the yacht.

Day 2: CROSSROADS to Guraidhoo

Leave the marina behind and cruise south to Guraidhoo. Today is about enjoying the yacht’s water activities: a guided snorkel for those keen to explore, or paddleboarding in a sheltered area when conditions suit. Lunch on deck can run into an easy afternoon, with a brief island visit for anyone who wants it. Save the longer cultural stop for Fulidhoo tomorrow and let this first full day settle everyone into the holiday.

Day 3: Guraidhoo to Fulidhoo

Cross into Vaavu and arrive at Fulidhoo with the afternoon for island life. Meet a local host, try bajiyaa or masroshi with tea and hear about the fishing traditions and boduberu music associated with the island. If a community performance is available, arrange it for the evening; otherwise, enjoy the waterfront as residents gather after the heat of the day. This stop brings people and place into a route that will soon become more focused on reefs and open water.

Day 4: Fulidhoo to Thinadhoo

Thinadhoo makes a base for a day exploring Vaavu’s underwater scenery with a local dive team. Qualified divers may consider Miyaru Kandu when currents and recent experience make it appropriate; channel diving is a different undertaking from a casual snorkel. Other guests can take a separate guided reef outing and spend time on the beach. Reunite for lunch aboard, then leave the afternoon loose enough for a second activity or a well-earned rest.

Day 5: Thinadhoo to Kuda Anbara

Take a quieter day around Kuda Anbara after yesterday’s diving. A guided reef visit and, where permitted, a sandbank landing bring the focus back to light, water and open views. Lunch can be served aboard or taken ashore as a picnic with the crew. The afternoon is deliberately spacious: read in the shade, swim again or simply enjoy being away from the busier islands. Remain in Vaavu tonight, ready for tomorrow’s westbound passage.

Day 6: Vaavu to South Ari

Reserve the day for the crossing from Vaavu to South Ari. Breakfast and lunch aboard break up the passage, with the deck offering a good place to watch the changing sea and rest. There is no scheduled dive, restaurant booking or sandbank excursion on arrival. The aim is to reach the Dhigurah area and settle for the night, leaving tomorrow clear for a properly guided South Ari Marine Park outing.

Day 7: Dhigurah and South Ari Marine Park

Explore South Ari Marine Park with an authorised excursion team, following the current whale-shark interaction rules. The reward is observing an animal on its own terms: no feeding, touching, pursuit or blocked path. Sightings remain a matter of wildlife and conditions, so allow the morning to unfold without a promised encounter. Later, land on Dhigurah for a beach walk and return aboard for lunch. A relaxed afternoon leaves room to enjoy the area beyond the wildlife search.

Day 8: Dhigurah to Rangali

Cruise toward Rangali on Ari’s western side, with time for a guided reef outing and lunch aboard. For a special occasion, Ithaa at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island offers underwater dining beneath a glass enclosure. Include it only with the resort’s acceptance of your visiting party and a confirmed reservation and transfer; the yacht’s position alone does not provide resort access. Dinner aboard is an equally good option after a day spent around the reefs.

Day 9: Rangali to Omadhoo

Turn north toward Omadhoo, changing from resort surroundings to an inhabited island. Go ashore in the cooler afternoon for a locally hosted walk, a tea stop and time by the waterfront. Ask before photographing people or their workplaces and dress for village streets rather than the beach. Back on the yacht, enjoy a quiet evening with the crew’s cooking. The pleasure of this stop is the contrast it brings to the previous day.

Day 10: Omadhoo to Fesdhoo

Continue into North Ari toward Fesdhoo. Experienced divers can discuss the local reef and wreck options with their dive team, while snorkellers follow a separate reef programme. After lunch, take time to review photographs or return to the water for a shorter guided session. The evening stays aboard, with no shore reservation to meet. Wildlife is observed without baiting or attraction lights, allowing the day to centre on what is naturally present.

Day 11: Fesdhoo to Maaya Thila

Maaya Thila brings another aspect of Ari’s underwater landscape: a protected reef pinnacle explored with a dive guide. Depth, current and recent diving experience determine the plan for certified divers. Non-divers can choose a separate, suitable snorkelling site or stay aboard for a quiet morning. Meet again over lunch, then enjoy an afternoon without another major move. Discuss the remaining dive schedule with the dive team in light of your onward flight.

Day 12: Maaya Thila to Rasdhoo

Cruise north to Rasdhoo for the final island stay of the circuit. After the last few days’ underwater focus, use the afternoon for a permitted sandbank visit or a stroll ashore and a coffee. There is time to buy a small reminder of the trip before returning aboard. Enjoy dinner with the open-water passage back to Malé still ahead tomorrow. Anyone continuing to dive should follow the dive team’s agreed pre-flight schedule.

Day 13: Rasdhoo to Malé

Make the eastbound passage from Rasdhoo to the Malé area today, leaving the final morning free for the airport transfer. Breakfast and lunch aboard accompany the crossing, followed by an unhurried evening once the yacht is settled. A farewell dinner gives everyone time to look back over the journey, from Vaavu’s island communities to Ari’s reefs. Return-day excursions stay optional so that the crossing and arrival remain the focus.

Day 14: Hulhumalé

Enjoy a final breakfast aboard before disembarking at the agreed Malé-area location. With the yacht already back from Rasdhoo, the morning is about luggage, farewells and the transfer to the airport or hotel. Guests staying longer can continue ashore under separate arrangements. The fortnight ends where it began, after a circuit that combines local islands, protected marine areas, a little dining ashore and plenty of time to enjoy the yacht.

Maldives yacht charter FAQs

When is the best time for a Maldives yacht charter?

The main winter planning window for a Maldives yacht charter is December to April. January to March is the dry northeast monsoon; December and April are transition months. Rain remains possible, and open-water crossings still depend on the forecast. North Malé suits a short stay, while a longer charter gives you more time for Ari or Vaavu and the passages between them.

Is four days enough, or should we choose a week?

Four days gives you three nights in North Malé, with island visits and time in the water close to the capital. Seven days allows six nights for South Malé and Vaavu. Ten days makes an Ari circuit, while fourteen days combines Vaavu, Ari and Rasdhoo. Choose the shorter route if avoiding open-water passages matters more than reaching another atoll.

Can we see whale sharks or manta rays in winter?

Whale sharks are present year-round in South Ari Marine Park, making it a worthwhile area to include in a winter charter. Sightings and opportunities to enter the water remain dependent on wildlife and conditions. Manta encounters vary by season and location. Hanifaru Bay’s main manta season is May to November, so these winter routes focus on the central atolls rather than promising a Hanifaru experience.

Does everyone need to dive?

Non-divers can enjoy a Maldives charter through guided snorkelling, beach stops, island visits and the yacht’s water activities. Dive sites such as Maaya Thila and Vaavu’s channels need a separate plan based on qualifications, recent experience and currents. A good mixed-group programme gives snorkellers their own suitable outing, rather than taking everyone to a dive site. Diving and onward flying must also be scheduled together with the dive team.

Can we visit resort restaurants and use their facilities?

Baraabaru at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa welcomes outside guests by reservation, while CROSSROADS accepts visiting private boats with advance arrival arrangements. Other resort visits depend on the individual property’s acceptance, booking terms and transfers. Restaurant reservations do not automatically include beach, pool or spa access. Your broker can arrange a specific evening ashore alongside the meals prepared aboard.

What should we know about inhabited island visits?

Local islands are working communities, with their own shops, cafés, mosques and harbours. Cover up away from designated visitor beaches, follow local guidance and ask before photographing people. A local host can add context to a visit and help you choose food or find a small shop. Wildlife encounters should remain observational, without feeding or handling animals for photographs.

Where do the itineraries start and finish?

All four itineraries start and finish in the Malé area, with the precise embarkation point and airport transfer agreed for the chosen yacht. The ten-day route returns through South Malé rather than relying on a domestic flight from Maamigili. For the Ari routes, plan an early embarkation or arrive the night before. Day counts include arrival and departure days, so seven days means six nights aboard.

Are these routes suitable for families?

Families can enjoy these routes when the yacht, water activities and passage lengths suit the children’s ages and confidence. The North Malé itinerary offers a contained starting point without an inter-atoll crossing. Ari and Vaavu involve more time at sea. Discuss tender boarding, shade, safety equipment and supervision when choosing the yacht, then balance guided outings with time to rest aboard.
